Pregnancy Q & A

What does pregnancy care include?

Pregnancy care at The Childbirth and Women’s Wellness Center includes medical monitoring for you and your unborn baby during pregnancy. Nurse-midwives offer:

  • Family planning
  • Fertility treatments
  • Well-woman exams
  • Pap tests
  • Ultrasounds
  • Lab tests
  • Prenatal examinations
  • Fetal heartbeat monitoring
  • Prenatal testing
  • Preventive medicine
  • Disease screening and treatment
  • Labor and delivery

The Childbirth and Women’s Wellness Center providers can assist you with natural childbirth, vaginal delivery after cesarean (VBAC), or gentle cesarean section (C-section).

Quality pregnancy care gives you and your baby the best chance of staying healthy. If a complication does develop, your nurse-midwife can detect it early before more serious problems arise.

What happens during pregnancy care visits?

During pregnancy visits at The Childbirth and Women’s Wellness Center, friendly staff members welcome you. They check your weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs. Your specialist reviews your symptoms (if you have any), your medical history, and your medication regimen.

They complete a physical examination to assess your overall health and wellness, including a pelvic exam and Pap test as needed to screen for signs of cervical cancer. Your specialist may also measure your abdomen, listen to your baby’s heartbeat, and recommend you undergo a urine analysis, blood test, ultrasound, or genetic testing.

During your first pregnancy visit, they can estimate your due date. Your midwife answers questions or concerns you may have and lets you know when to schedule your next prenatal appointment.

How can I have a healthy pregnancy?

The best way to maintain a healthy pregnancy is to attend routine appointments with your nurse-midwife and maintain healthy habits. Examples include eating a well-balanced diet, staying active, getting plenty of sleep, and keeping stress levels low. Don’t smoke, use other tobacco products, or drink alcohol.

What should I expect during and after delivery?

The Childbirth and Women’s Wellness Center team is here for you any hour of the day, so when you go into labor, they are ready for you. Your midwife coaches you through the process of labor and delivery, ensuring you’re comfortable and as prepared as possible. They offer postpartum care after delivery to ensure you and your new addition maintain exceptional health.
