Natural Childbirth

Many women consider natural childbirth empowering.

We believe childbirth should be a celebration of new life and view pregnancy as a normal, healthy process not a medical event or surgical procedure. A woman who is supported through labor, as she instinctively wants to birth, is a woman who will likely feel positive about her birth experience and future parenting skills. Her baby is more alert and placed on her skin (promoting maternal bonding) and breastfeeding is more likely to be enjoyable and successful.

Proponents of natural childbirth note that anesthetics can increase the likelihood of complications.

Labor may be slowed and the naturally occurring hormones of birth are not passed on to the baby. We stay with our clients and give them the time and attention they need to have a healthy and natural labor and birth.

Our Approach

Our approach to natural childbirth is designed to eliminate unnecessary medical interventions. We particularly do not promote the use of anesthetic medications and surgical interventions such as episiotomies, forceps, vacuum extractor deliveries and cesarean sections. We do, however, use such interventions when medically indicated.

Our Commitment

Your care will be delivered in a warm, caring, family-centered environment designed to achieve a normal, natural, empowering and joyful birth. We use the time-tested and proven midwifery model of care with a sensible reliance on modern medicine.
